Shining a spotlight on violence and aggression in all its forms. Hereford Cathedral 14 June to 12 July 2021
helping young people understand the impact of violent crime on communities, families and individuals
The Knife Angel is a stunning 27ft, 3.5 ton, sculpture of an angel made out of 100,000 confiscated knives received from 43 Police Forces across the UK.
Originating from The British Ironwork Centre in Oswestry and created by sculptor Alfie Bradley, it has been on tour of towns and cities around Britain raising awareness of the issues of knife crime and all forms of violence and aggression.
The Knife Angel is a National Monument Against Violence and Aggression, and is coming to Hereford in June 2021
Alison Davies lost her son Mark to knife crime in December 2018 and together with Meryl Cain and a small group of friends wanted to raise awareness of the catastrophic impact violent crime has on individuals, families and communities. The team’s involvement with this project is carried out on a voluntary basis. The group are known as The Knife Angel Hereford Team.
The Knife Angel is coming to Hereford on June 14 – July 12 2021 hosted by Hereford Cathedral. During the Knife Angel’s visit we will run a series of workshops and interactive events. It is envisaged that this initiative will continue after the Knife Angel leaves Hereford. The majority of host towns & cities to date have had a knife amnesty whilst the Angel is in situ. We will have a general weapons amnesty, with the approval of West Mercia Police. There is a “weapon surrender” secure bin which travels with the Angel.
During the Knife Angel’s stay in Hereford, there will be;
We need to raise funds to cover the cost of workshops, conferences, promotional campaigns and literature, printing costs, lighting, plus 24-hour security and insurance for this valuable and unique statue.
